Exmoor Explorer - 400 riders, two courses: 25 miles or add an extra 10 mile loop. Only needed to make decision whether or not to do the extra loop at the 1st tea stop, as long as you got there by 12:30! After that, you weren't allowed.

This wasn't a race. Neither was it a gentle Sun. out on a bike. It was serious hard work & I was seriously knackered on the (many) steep uphills.

Past the first couple of control points, & some decent descents. The going was very tricky through the wooded sections with the strong sunlight & shadows making it almost impossible to see. Perhaps as well!

Got to the tea stop with 12 mins to spare before the extra loop was closed off. Just enough time for a cup of tea & slice of cake - all provided.

So I/we did the extra 10 mile loop. Not really a smart move as it turned out. Most of the climbs were almost unwalkable, never mind unrideable!

Cutting out the detail, got back to Dunster Castle in 6hrs 17 mins. A long, hot, dusty & sometimes even muddy day.
